About Combivent Respimat

Ipratropium bromide plus albuterol sulfate, often known as COMBIVENT RESPIMAT, is a combination medication that comes in inhaler form. This medication is recommended for those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Combivent Respimat inhaler is one of the best product for pwople with COPD.

Combivent Resoimat is a type of Bronchodilator. It helps relax your lungs’ blocked or narrowed breathing passages as you inhale it. You would be already on a bronchodilator before your doctor prescribes you a second bronchodilator in inhaler form. The second time prescription is supposedly because of tightness in the chest muscle airway.

Combivent Respimat, a brand-name medication, consists of two different medications. The first is Ipratropium, from a class of medications called anticholinergics. The second is Albuterol, from a class of medications called beta2-adrenergic agonists.

Ipratropium bromide is a crystalline white or off-white substance that dissolves easily in water and methanol but not in ethanol. It also doesn’t dissolve in lipophilic solvents like ether, chloroform, and fluorocarbons.

Albuterol sulfate is a crystalline powder that is white to off-white. It dissolves easily in water and only a little bit in alcohol, chloroform, and ether.

About Respimat Device

The Respimat is an inhaler that produces a fine mist. It is a handheld device that converts liquid medication into a fine mist, which is subsequently inhaled. It takes some coordination to press down slowly and breathe in simultaneously when using the soft mist inhaler.

It is to be noted that there is no propellant added to the medicine. It is converted into a fine mist by a compressed spring inside the inhaler.

What is COPD?

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name of a group including three or more separate diseases-

  • Emphysema
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive asthma

They are all progressive lung diseases that only grow worse over time. Worse to the extent that it gets harder to catch your breath even doing something very ordinary. As per the latest statistics, almost 16 million Americans have been diagnosed with it.

How To Take It?

For Inhalation, the first thing is to check if the cartridge is clean. Next, insert the inhaler in the unit provided. Prime the inhaler if using it for the first time or if not used for more than 3 days or more than 21 days. You have to Inhale it from your mouth. Before doing so, make sure to spray away from you so that you know its working and the medication does not get into your eyes.

It is important to clean the mouthpiece with a damp cloth at least once a week.

After you put a new cartridge into the inhaler, you should throw away the old one after 3 months, even if it still has medicine in it that hasn’t been used. The inhaler has a special locking system that stops it from being used after 120 sprays.

Dosage for Inhaler

Combivent Respimat specifically helps in relaxing your muscle airways.

As this medicine is a combination of two proven medications than alone a single inhaler. You are supposed to take it daily, 4 times a day, to keep your airways open. After inhalation, you are likely to see results in 15 minutes.

In any case, do not exceed 6 inhalations in a span of 24 hours.

As with all inhaled medications, the amount of medication that gets to the lungs may depend on the patient and things like how well the inhaler is used and how well the patient breathes through the delivery system. The length of time you breathe in should be at least as long as how long you spray (1.5 seconds).

What Not To Do?

Bronchodilators are a savior, but using them beyond a certain range can be really harmful.

Death being the extreme case reported. Asthma patients who use this inhaler, too, have shown signs of clear discomfort and life-risking conditions.

If you find yourself using your inhaler more frequently than advised or if your condition worsens, you should contact your healthcare practitioner immediately.
